Overhead Crane Training
The goal of Overhead Crane Training is to develop your competence, skills and safety practices with cranes and hoists. Rigorous safe standards and procedures have been established to prevent injury and increase worker safety, and workers should be aware of them. This training will help fulfill management’s obligations to ensure workers are fully versed in best practices of operating crane and rigging loads.
Overhead Crane Outline – Theory (4 Hours):
- Occupational Health and Safety Act and Industrial Regulations requirements
- Inspection of slings, lifting points and pendent crane
- Understanding load limits and capacities
- Operating at safe distances
- Standard hand signals
- Best safety practices
- Using chains, slings, spreader bars, grabbers, and other attachments
Overhead Crane Outline – Practical (2 Hours):
- How to inspect the crane, slings, fittings and attachments
- Estimate the mass of a load
- Hands-on practice of rigging and lifting procedures
- Rig and lift loads

- Operating within compliance of legislative guidelines and standards
- Best practices for hoist operation
- Moving loads
- Conducting inspections
- Understanding loads, balance and center of gravity
- Sling types
- Bolts, rings and shackles
